You found the fat book.
If you got here searching for a flat-rate price book, quick level-set: this isn't a contractor pricing tool. TheFatBook is a public cost index built for homeowners, the people reading your bids. The math underneath is the same math you'd recognize, though. Craftsman labor hours, BLS metro wages with burden, PPI-adjusted materials, verified city permit fees, NAHB overhead benchmarks.
What's in it for you
Homeowners run quotes through our Bid Fairness Checker, which grades a bill against cost-to-deliver for their metro. A fair bid grades fair. If your pricing is honest, this site is the independent third party saying so, and you didn't have to pay for the endorsement. The methodology is public; bring it to the kitchen table when a customer wants to know where your number comes from.
Use the data
Every trade has a free embeddable bid checker for your own site, with the embed code on each trade's checker page. Citing our numbers in a proposal or blog post is welcome with attribution and a link.
Get in front of the homeowners we talk to
We're building a vetted contractor network in the metros the index covers. It's early and deliberately small. If you want in when your metro opens, email dave@thefatbook.com with your trade and city, and tell us what a fair bid looks like in your market. The ones who answer that well are the ones we want.
